Internship/Co-Op – Indianapolis

Students that are self-motivated, team-oriented, and that are willing to learn the technical skills needed to become an Environmental Consultant should apply for EnviroForensics’ Environmental Technician position for internship or cooperative education. Selected students will also learn to uphold and maintain business ethics in a manner consistent with EnviroForensics’ Core Values. They will be instructed on how to conduct field sampling activities and associated administrative functions. As opportunities present, selected students will assist in remedial or mitigation system installation and in preparing technical documents. By the end of the experience, the selected students should be knowledgeable in field sampling techniques, acquire a general understanding of industry objectives, be able to manage site activities, and implement project objectives.
Selected students will be instructed on how to conduct and manage field monitoring and how to collect groundwater samples in accordance with company standard operating procedures and State guidance documents. Students also may have opportunities to learn vapor sample collection techniques, and assisting Staff Professionals with soil boring investigations, which could include soil type classification and monitoring well installation. Selected students will be instructed on how to evaluate groundwater geochemical data collected while sampling in the field to provide project team environmental and geologic interpretation of Site conditions. Selected students may have opportunities to generate draft potentiometric and isocontour maps. Depending on project scheduling, selected students may have opportunities to assist with remedial system installation and maintenance. Selected students will:
- Report directly to a Field Supervisor and a Mentor;
- Work directly with Project Management Teams to understand project related responsibilities;
- Learn to effectively implement assigned tasks;
- Learn to manage the administrative and budgetary aspects of assigned tasks;
- Conduct assigned site investigation field sampling and assessment activities;
- Learn to document and prepare forms related to all field activities in accordance with proper standard operating procedures;
- Learn and implement the site’s Health and Safety Plan (HASP), and ensure their own health and safety while in the field;
- Learn to compile and mange field data and other project information;
- Maintain company vehicles and equipment, and notify management of required repairs and/or other needs; and
- Keep equipment room clean and well organized.
- General knowledge in a relevant area of science, geology, and/or engineering customarily gained through attendance and successful completion of a course of study at an accredited university.
- Use of discretion and professional judgment.
- Must have valid driver’s license and be able to drive to various job sites.
- Travel to job sites and overnight stays are required.
- Requires the ability to, at times, work long hours (i.e., 10+ hrs./day; 40+ hrs./week) while in the field, in addition to required time in the office.
- Schedule will primarily be Monday through Friday; however, weekend work may be available at times for motivated individuals.
- Field events will at times be conducted in severe weather conditions (e.g., heat/humidity, cold, rain, snow, etc.). Health and Safety precautions will be considered at all times, especially during extreme weather conditions.
- Requires occasional lifting and carrying of heavy equipment, up to approximately 60 pounds.
- Field sampling and other field activities must be completed in accordance with standard operating procedures and within reasonable time-frames.
