EnviroForensics’ Megan Hamilton to Moderate the Midwestern States Environmental Consultants Association’s Quarterly Meeting on Vapor Intrusion

The Midwestern States Environmental Consultants Association (MSECA) will hold their Quarterly Meeting August 18th. This meeting’s organizer and moderator is Megan Hamilton, Director of Vapor Intrusion and Risk Assessment at EnviroForensics, who is on the board for MSECA. Megan served as the coordinator and team leader for the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) Vapor Intrusion (VI) Workgroup for six years and is the main author of the current Indiana Vapor Intrusion Guidance as published in the Remediation Closure Guide. She has assisted in the design and implementation of numerous VI investigations for commercial, industrial and residential properties. She currently serves on the National VI Science Advisory Committee. EnviroForensics is the Gold Sponsor for this event.

This Quarterly Meeting will explore Vapor Intrusion, and it is anticipated to be the largest Quarterly Meeting the MSECA has ever held, with over 140 attendees currently registered. This meeting has drawn a wide array of attendees, including surrounding State regulatory agencies such as IDEM and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WDNR). Presentations will be led by nationally-renowned speakers, including Henry Schuver from the U.S. EPA and Todd McAlary, a member of the U.S. EPA’s Expert Panel on Vapor Intrusion. Henry Schuver’s presentation, “Cost Effective Screening of Chemical Vapor Intrusion (CVI) Potential – Across Space (Buildings) & Time,” will discuss some of the latest information from studies of intrusion of radon and chlorinated VOCs and will discuss screening methods that can present cost savings and other benefits for all CVI stakeholders. A presentation by Joe Miller from Vapor Protection Services entitled “SSDS Design Accuracy Utilizing Advanced Diagnostics and Modified Approaches Applying SSDS Technology for VI Mitigation” will discuss topics regarding the use of Advanced Diagnostics for Vapor Intrusion sites that occur before designing and installing Sub-Slab depressurization systems.

The five presentations will be:

  • “Sampling Media, Analytical Methods, and Instrumentation used to Screen, Investigate, and Close Vapor Intrusion Sites – What is reliable and accurate?” by Rob Uppencamp, ARCADIS U.S., Inc.
  •  “Applied Research on Vapor Intrusion Assessment and Mitigation” by Todd McAlary, Geosyntec Consultants
  •  “Cost-Effective Screening of Chemical Vapor Intrusion (CVI) Potential – Across Space (Buildings) & Time” by Henry Schuver, US EPA
  •  “SSDS Design Accuracy Utilizing Advanced Diagnostics and Modified Approaches Applying SSDS Technology for VI Mitigation” by Joe Miller, Vapor Protection Services
  • “Analysis and Resolution of the Vapor Intrusion Pathway at an Active Indianapolis School” by Dave Gillay, Barnes and Thornburg

The meeting will be held in the Indiana Government Center South. Click here to register.
