Site Investigation and Remediation

Experienced hydrogeologists, geologists, engineers, and scientists have the capabilities to deliver site Investigation and Remediation services for a variety of businesses, industrial facilities and municipalities. EnviroForensics engineers have specialized in providing innovative, risk based approaches to cleaning up soil and groundwater contamination in order to bring site closure to those problems. Providing unsurpassed, quality service, EnviroForensics quickly characterizes the extent of the problem, and implements cost-effective corrective measures that minimize business disruption and facilitate property transfers and site closure.

EnviroForensics provides full-service turnkey engineering and remediation services, which include evaluating remedial alternatives, conducting bench scale and pilot scale tests, analyzing remedial alternatives, treatment system design, permitting and construction, and system operation and maintenance. Our engineers use the most current proven and demonstrated technologies: In situ biological and chemical remediation, as well as, design and implementation of remote control and telemetry systems. EnviroForensics provides closure of environmental cases at industrial and commercial sites nationwide and is fully insured under Contractor’s Pollution Liability Insurance.

Primary Service Areas

   Site Investigation
   Waste Sampling and Testing Operations
   Risk Assessment
   Feasibility Study
   Site Remediation

Site Investigation

EnviroForensics has performed hundreds of site and remedial investigations throughout the United States. These projects involve Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments to assess potential site environmental liabilities, as well as, to develop project work plans, negotiate with regulatory agencies, and conduct comprehensive and legally defensible site characterizations. Methods of investigation involve drilling exploratory borings, collecting soil gas samples, drilling and installing monitoring wells, conducting geophysical logging, evaluating preferential migration pathways, conducting sanitary sewer investigations, performing aquifer pump tests, creating and running groundwater models, and conducting indoor air sampling. EnviroForensics emphasizes establishing good working relationships with agency personnel from the start so that the planning effort can be efficient. A key element of success in performing remedial investigations is interpreting the local geology. Exploratory borings and detailed stratigraphy are used to determine the vertical and horizontal extent of the contamination. Hydraulic conductivity testing is conducted to determine the transmissitivity of the water bearing units and to determine the potential for vertical migration of chemical contaminants. Technical reports are prepared both electronically and in hard copy to provide a comprehensive evaluation of the site conditions.

Waste Sampling and Testing Operations

Statutory testing at site demolition or tank removal or site closure
   Hazardous waste testing
   Spill site testing
   Air quality testing
   Wastewater discharge testing
   Compliance monitoring testing

EnviroForensics performs the above sampling and analysis in strict adherence to state and federal regulations. Proper field and laboratory quality control, quality assurance protocol for water, soil, and air sampling (including a minimum of duplicates and field, trip, and method blanks) are employed for data accuracy.

Risk Assessment

Risk assessments establish the potential public health and environmental risks due to site contamination and are used to develop site-specific cleanup criteria to be used in remediation. EnviroForensics conducts risk assessments in accordance with applicable State and U.S. EPA guidelines, including its Superfund Public Health Evaluation Manual and Risk Assessment Methodology for Hazardous Waste Management. The potential exposure pathways, contaminant concentrations, and potential receptors are determined to assess the degree of exposure. The physical, chemical and toxological properties of chemicals of concern are appropriately used to estimate the probability of human health impacts (ingestion, dermal contact and inhalation exposure routes). Chemical concentrations, which provide acceptable risk, are considered as site-specific cleanup objectives. Appropriate remediation systems are identified during the feasibility study for site clean up.

Remedial Alternatives Analysis And Feasibility Study

The purpose of the remedial alternative analysis and feasibility study is to identify, develop and evaluate potential remedial action alternatives (including noaction) for treatment, containment or disposal of contaminated site media (soil, groundwater, sediment, waste, etc.) and to ultimately select the most costeffective alternative for the site, which will be acceptable to regulatory agencies and the public. The objective is to identify remedial actions that are protective of human health and of the environment and that comply with any applicable or relevant and appropriate requirements (ARARS) and to meet or exceed the clean up objective in the most cost effective way.

Site Remediation

EnviroForensics specializes in providing quality, site remediation services that minimize business disruption and incorporate the state-of-the-art proven technologies to provide cost effective and rapid site clean-ups. EnviroForensics has been involved with projects that have successfully used insitu injection of microbes, hydrogen release compounds, permanganate, and cheese whey, in addition to employing soil vapor extraction,UV-oxidation, air sparging and hydraulic plume containment. EnviroForensics staff personnel have prepared operation and maintenance manuals for remedial systems and are currently engaged in providing operations and maintenance services for large superfund sites projects.
